Fern Grotto Beach – A Secluded Gem with Jungle Vibes and Ocean Views

@asyatravels

Hidden gem on California coast 🌿 📍 Fern Grotto Beach 1401 Coast Rd, Santa Cruz, California Located in Wilder Ranch State Park It is a 2.5 mi round trip flat trail with beautiful coastal views, beaches, and wildlife (we saw birds, seals, rabbits). This unique cave is at the back of the beach with ferns draping down over the entrance. It is small but pretty. Notes: * Access is be easier during low tide * I believe the fern dries out by the end of summer so better go earlier to see it green. 🚗 Park at Wilder Ranch Day Use Parking 🗺️ Thanks to @Californian Views for the recommendation! 🎥 Video of me by @journeywithlina•travel Have you heard of this place before? . . . . #santacruz #hiddencalifornia #californiaadventure #californiaholics #explorecalifornia Best hikes in California, California beaches, California caves, what to do in Santa Cruz, California hidden gems, California travel blog

Located near San Simeon, California, Fern Grotto Beach is not your typical touristy shoreline. Instead, it feels like something out of a dream—where ferns cascade from mossy rocks, and a tucked-away path leads you to an almost-secret beach. The area takes its name from the dense fern-filled grottoes that fringe the cliffs, giving this stretch of sand a lush, mystical energy.

Accessing the beach requires a short walk from the trailhead, which only adds to the adventure. Once there, you’re greeted by dramatic rock formations, tide pools waiting to be explored, and a sense of solitude that’s hard to find elsewhere along the Pacific.
