Descanso Gardens’ annual “Carved” event is currently illuminating the nights with its mesmerizing pumpkin displays. Having opened on October 4 and running through October 30, 2024, this nighttime spectacle invites visitors to explore a magical world of pumpkins and autumn-themed attractions.
New Attractions and Returning Favorites
This year’s “Carved” features exciting new elements to enhance the visitor experience. The Descanso Railroad is specially lit for the event, offering a unique perspective on the autumnal displays. Adding a touch of whimsy, artist Chainsaw Jenna showcases a family of wood spirits carved from five enormous logs, bringing playful mischief to the enchanted atmosphere.
Returning favorites include luminous jack-o’-lanterns, hand-carved giant pumpkins, and the “Rhizome” installation by artists Tom and Lien Dekyvere.
Event Details
“Carved” is open nightly from 6 PM to 10 PM, with timed entry slots available at 6pm, 6:30pm, 7pm, 7:30pm, 8pm, 8:30pm, and 9pm. The event route is less than a mile long and typically takes about an hour to complete. It is fully accessible for strollers, wheelchairs, and mobility assistance devices.
Descanso Gardens emphasizes that “Carved” is a rain-or-shine event. Visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress warmly, as outdoor evenings in La Cañada Flintridge can get chilly.
Ticket Information
Tickets must be purchased in advance, with prices varying for members and non-members:
- Adult tickets (ages 13+): $28-$38 for members, $35-$45 for non-members
- Children’s tickets (ages 2-12): $18-$23 for members, $25-$30 for non-members
Special pricing is available for select dates (October 14-15 and 21-22), with member tickets ranging from $10-$15 and non-member tickets from $17-$22.

While Descanso Gardens members do not receive free entry to “Carved,” they do enjoy a $7 discount on ticket prices. Additionally, membership provides year-round benefits, including free daytime entry to the gardens and early access to tickets for special events like “Carved.”
