One of my most favorite road trips 💙 Point Reyes National Seashore is located just 1h north from San Francisco. You can spend there just half a day and still see a lot. But there’s so much to see there that you can easily spend 4-5 days there especially if you love hiking. Here’s an itinerary for a full 2-day weekend: 📍Cypress Tree Tunnel. One of the most beautiful tree tunnels in the world! No hiking required. Best time to photograph after sunrise from the side of the white building or sunset from the side of the road. 📍South Beach Overlook. Yes, this is that famous infinite beach! Easy 0.2 mi walk from the parking lot. The beach is visible from many spots though, even right from parking spots 💙 📍Point Reyes Lighthouse. 1.3mi easy to moderate hike along the paved road + 300 stairs down to the lighthouse (check the schedule before going to be sure it is opened). 📍 Chimney Rock. 2 miles easy hike with spectacular views and variety of wildlife. 📍Point Reyes Shipwrecks. A short easy walk to an iconic photography spot 🚢 As you see it was damaged in the past storms. Still a cool place though. 📍 Point Reyes Station is a great place for restaurants or coffee shops. My favorite Bovine Bakery conveniently opens at 6:30am so you can stop there on the way to your hikes. 📍 Alamere falls – one of the most beautiful waterfalls in California on one of the two beach waterfalls 😍 The trail there is long but relatively easy. It took around 6h for me to complete with a couple stop for pictures. There is much more to see! Want to feel like you’re on top of the world? Head to the Point Reyes Lighthouse, perched on a cliff with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. It’s the perfect place for a photo op (just keep an eye out for fog — it’s part of the charm).

Watch the Wildlife
Whether it’s sea lions lounging on the rocks or migrating whales passing by, Point Reyes is a wildlife lover’s dream. The park is home to countless species, and it’s not uncommon to spot some up close.

Explore Drakes Beach
Want a quieter, less crowded spot to chill? Drakes Beach has smooth, sandy shores and plenty of space to relax. It’s also a great place to watch the sunset and enjoy the peaceful sounds of the ocean.

Tips for Visiting

Pack Layers
Point Reyes can be cold and foggy, even in the summer. Always pack a jacket, especially if you plan to hike or spend time by the water.

Arrive Early
The park is popular, so if you want to avoid the crowds, arrive early in the morning to snag a parking spot and get the best views before the masses arrive.

Bring Water & Snacks
While there are a few places to grab food, it’s best to come prepared with snacks and water, especially if you plan on hiking for a few hours.
