Just outside the sleepy town of Borrego Springs, Galleta Meadows is home to over 130 giant metal sculptures scattered across the desert landscape — and they’re nothing short of jaw-dropping.

These surreal sculptures were commissioned by the late Dennis Avery and created by artist Ricardo Breceda — aka the “Picasso of Steel.”
They feature everything from prehistoric dinosaurs and saber-toothed cats to wild horses, giant insects, and even a 350-foot-long dragon-serpent hybrid that literally crosses the road.
And yes, they’re all out in the open, totally free to visit, and begging to be on your Instagram feed.
